What They Are: One-on-one, face-to-face time with an agent, editor, publisher, producer, or book doctor of your choice. EACH interview session lasts fifteen minutes.
Cost: $20 per interview. One FREE interview is included with registrations received prior to August 1, 2009.
* INTERVIEWS ARE SCHEDULED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS SO REGISTER EARLY TO GET YOUR PRIMARY CHOICES.* Once confirmed, interview fees are non-refundable, but we will try to accommodate schedule changes if needed. You will receive confirmation and a schedule of your interviews by email prior to the conference. SSA reserves the right to make schedule changes and faculty changes if necessary.
Why? This is your best opportunity to pitch your project to an agent or editor. They are looking for good writing, interesting projects, something they can make into a viable commodity.
When: Interviews are scheduled every fifteen minutes from 9:15 AM until 4:45PM Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. DO NOT ARRIVE LATE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SLOT—AND YOUR FEE. Be respectful of the faculty and other authors—> do not overrun your allotted time.
What to Bring: One page synopsis and/or one or two page sample of your work. These people are busy and will be seeing a lot of writers; they won’t want to carry a ream of paper home with them. Be prepared to send them what they ask for if they’re interested.
How Wrangling With Writing Private Sessions Work: Choose who you want to speak with from the faculty willing to schedule interviews listed below and write their name on the registration form for the conference. Include the total fees with your registration payment. Check your email in August and early September for confirmation of interviews. When you arrive at the conference, check your packet. A copy of your chosen workshops and schedule of interviews will be included, as well as a map of the hotel. Go to “The Pit” and check the Schedule Board. THE PIT CREW will be happy to assist you if you wish to purchase any additional interview sessions (cash only at that point).
[Warning: DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT TO WRITE YOUR NAME ON THE BOARD IN A SLOT YOU MIGHT WANT OR THE PIT CREW MAY MORPH INTO PIT VIPERS. Seriously. Consider yourself warned.]
Scout out WHERE each faculty person will be conducting their interviews. Don’t waste time hunting for where you’re going at the last minute. Arrive a few minutes early and wait courteously for the person ahead of you to leave. Bells will chime or a gong will sound to signal change times. This is exactly like a job interview. Dress appropriately and present your work in a condensed and concise businesslike manner. Practice your pitch before the conference.
WHO: The Faculty listed below are willing to schedule interview sessions. Note what they are looking for and which workshops they are leading. You can also visit their individual websites. |
